TEXTURES COLLECTION

All of our collections are handmade with an emphasis on natural fibres. Their production consumes very little energy and they’re made to last for decades. The Knots Rugs Textures Collection expands on our range of materials and possibilities, exploring the use of natural, sustainable fibres such as Hemp, Cactus, Nettle, Yak Wool, Lotus Yarn and on.

Working generally, to shorter production lead times, with no compromise in the quality, this collection, with subtle shades and simple designs that work beautifully in any setting, is also completely customisable.

MUGAR TUSHAR KILIM | NATURAL

Part of the Knots Rugs Textures collection, Mugar Tushar Kilim is a handwoven flatweave rug produced in Nepal, made using 100% Mugar Tushar wild silk, which has a natural abrash effect.

Muga silk is native of Assam and has a natural golden colour and glossy texture. The name Muga in Assamese indicates the amber brown colour of the cocoon.

Belonging to the same family as Tussar/Tasar silk, Muga Silk is obtained from a semi-domesticated silkworm.

We have a variety of natural and wild silks in our collection, including Tasar silk which is a fine fibre that comes from the wild and is non farmed. It is made by the larvae of silk moths which live in the wild forest and do not breed on mulberry (this is the most common food source for most silkworms).

Tasar silk is valued for its rich texture and natural, deep-gold colour.

Varieties are produced in many countries, including China, India, Japan, and Sri Lanka.

It has a natural warmth and softness, is odour resistant and has soundproofing and anti-microbial properties. This rug has been finished with a deep rusty red border and hand-plaited fringe.

Part of the Knots Rugs Textures collection, Checkerboard Charcoal has been made from 100% Wild Match silk.

Matka silk is a non-farmed, coarse silk from the Indiansubcontinent. Produced from pierced cocoons which meansthe moth of the silkworm has already emerged and left thecocoon. The silk is then spun, the spinning nature of thesethreads means that they are slightly thicker than conventionalsilk, but still very soft, giving it a feel that is somewherebetween cotton and cashmere.

Matka silk is a great alternative to other silks as it an upcycled yarn made from broken waste and leftover fibres. This results in a unique yarn that is slightly more matte in appearance, although it shimmers very subtly in the sun. The spun nature of the threads means that they are slightly thicker than conventional silk, but still very soft to touch.

This highly distinctive, luxurious rug is soft underfoot with dark charcoal tones and the square pattern making a unique checkerboard design.

This design is also available in a blend of 70% Tibetan wool, 30% Chinese silk as an alternative or completely custom upon request.
