Artist Collaboration
Nat Maks
British paper marbling artist Natascha Maks (Nat Maks) is a leading figure in the art of Suminagashi — Japanese paper marbling. A QEST Scholar and resident artist at Resort Studios, Margate, she is known for her masterful use of colour and immersive compositions that fuse heritage with modernity.
Blurring the boundaries between art and craft, Natascha pushes traditional marbling into new territory, creating bold, fluid designs that are both striking and deeply harmonious. Her award-winning practice celebrates the movement of ink, water and pigment — a visual language that now translates beautifully into hand-knotted rugs through her collaboration with Knots Rugs.
Formerly part of Sir Ridley Scott’s film team, Natascha brings cinematic depth and storytelling to her work. Her distinctive marbling style has earned Livingetc’s Rug of the Year 2025 for the Knots Run collaboration Dusk and Best Wallpaper at the Homes & Gardens Awards 2024, as well as a QEST scholarship for her pioneering research into sustainable botanical inks.
Recent collaborations include Molton Brown, Maison Cacao, Knots Rugs, and Decorex, with exhibitions at Ruup & Form, London (2025) and Dory’s, Margate (2024). Her work has been featured in ELLE Decoration, House & Garden, Livingetc, Wallpaper, The Guardian and Financial Times.
