Library Of Forms | Original
Brian Coleman
Library of Forms reflects Brian Coleman’s long-standing fascination with architecture, objects, shapes and form. Drawing on ideas and drawings developed over many years, the design is informed by Coleman’s background in graphic design and film editing and his interest in bold mark-making and overlapping sketched forms.
Translated into a hand-knotted rug, the composition retains the layered, graphic character of Coleman’s original mixed-media work. Tibetan wool and Chinese silk bring texture and depth to the design, while the fine 150-knot construction allows the intricacy of the original marks and forms to be closely interpreted in textile.
Hand-knotted in Nepal, Library of Forms is available in bespoke dimensions and colourways.

Artist Collaboration
Brian Coleman
American artist Brian Coleman’s works are evocative and emotional interpretations of memories and future visions, a celebration of shape and form. “I am always building the surface, changing direction and rearranging on a journey to explore the space on the canvas; the drawing comes alive and starts to move and grow, gaining substance. The images are pieces and parts of the past, present and future, in the process of becoming something else. They come together to become another place in time”.
In collaboration with Knots Rugs, Coleman’s visual language is translated into intricately hand-knotted rugs that capture his signature abstraction and depth. Each piece reflects the artist’s fascination with layers of history and personal narrative, merging painting and textile into one continuous story.
Among Knots Rugs’ most popular and enduring artist collections, the Brian Coleman series continues to evolve with new designs that push the dialogue between contemporary art and traditional rug craftsmanship.
