Wherever It Takes Me | Original

Brian Coleman

Wherever It Takes Me combines a softly mottled grey ground with bursts of orange, baby blue and petrol. Brushstrokes move across the composition while traces of earlier marks remain visible, reflecting Brian Coleman’s habit of allowing previous forms and gestures to reappear within later work.

That sense of accumulation is central to Coleman’s practice, in which images develop through continual movement, rearrangement and the reuse of visual fragments. Translated into a hand-knotted rug, the original painting retains its contrast between quieter areas and more concentrated passages of colour.

Hand-knotted in Nepal in Tibetan wool and Chinese silk, Wherever It Takes Me is available in bespoke dimensions and colourways.

Artist Collaboration

Brian Coleman

American artist Brian Coleman’s works are evocative and emotional interpretations of memories and future visions, a celebration of shape and form. “I am always building the surface, changing direction and rearranging on a journey to explore the space on the canvas; the drawing comes alive and starts to move and grow, gaining substance. The images are pieces and parts of the past, present and future, in the process of becoming something else. They come together to become another place in time”.

In collaboration with Knots Rugs, Coleman’s visual language is translated into intricately hand-knotted rugs that capture his signature abstraction and depth. Each piece reflects the artist’s fascination with layers of history and personal narrative, merging painting and textile into one continuous story.

Among Knots Rugs’ most popular and enduring artist collections, the Brian Coleman series continues to evolve with new designs that push the dialogue between contemporary art and traditional rug craftsmanship.
