Knots Rugs is proud to present our new artist collaboration with Barcelona based artist Alicia Gimeno. The collection was inspired by a trip to the Chepang community in Nepal as part of the Bahadur Social Project, an NGO focused on improving the lives of children. The four rugs in the collection are named after 4 little girls Alicia met.
'Tabitha was already a young lady. A girl of about 12 years old, she was beginning to enjoy looking beautiful, styling her hair. Along with her friends, she practiced Bollywood dances they saw on the few screens available in the area, small windows to the world that convinced them they had a future ahead of them, that they could be women more connected to the world than their ancestors. None of them wanted to leave the village, but even so, their outlook was already much more modern. She was fascinated by my yellow hair, dried out by the harsh climate. She would come over to braid it and place the traditional red dot on my forehead'.

Alicia Gimeno
Barcelona born artist Alicia Gimeno combines the organic forms of Catalan modernism with a deep interest in spirituality, particularly as expressed in Japanese calligraphy.
Trained in graphic design in Mexico, Alicia was drawn early on to the gestural beauty of calligraphy. Her exploration led her to oriental calligraphy, where she discovered the spiritual depth of the written word, seeing it as an expression beyond language.
Alicia’s work is characterized by abstract calligraphies infused with botanical elements. She uses minimal color, focusing instead on the energetic expression of brushstrokes, inviting viewers into a contemplative state. Through her art, she seeks to connect us to the simple, pure aspects of nature, encouraging introspection and a sense of unity with the natural world.
Her work reflects concepts from Eastern philosophy, like Wabi Sabi—finding beauty in imperfection—and Ma, the significance of negative space within context.
