Decorex International 2025
Knots Rugs returns to Decorex 2025 at Olympia London, continuing a long tradition of presenting luxury hand-knotted rugs that unite art, design, and craftsmanship. This year’s exhibition features new works from our acclaimed Artist Collaboration Series 'Your Floor is the Canvas' introducing work with Spanish artist Beñat Oe and US based artist Sara Bopp — alongside a curated selection of signature designs from the Textures, Abstract, and Geometric collections.
Each rug embodies the essence of the Knots Rugs philosophy — authentic craftsmanship, natural fibres, and contemporary artistic expression rooted in London yet connected to master weavers in Nepal. The booth becomes a gallery of texture and tone, where traditional hand-knotting meets avant-garde artistry and modern interior design.

2017 Brings in a New Era for Knots
2017 marked a new chapter for Knots Rugs, with the launch of our first Your Floor is the Canvas collection — a defining moment in our evolution as a London-based studio for luxury hand-knotted rugs. Exhibiting once again at Decorex International, we had the privilege of collaborating with a remarkable group of contemporary artists, translating their vision into miniature works of art for the floor.
Pictured here:
On the right, At the End of the Day by George Morton-Clark — the piece that stopped visitors in their tracks. Hand-knotted in fine wool and silk, this design reimagined abstract expressionism through texture and form, transforming the conversation around what a rug could be.
To the left, designs from our 17th Century Collection — where classic motifs meet modern craftsmanship. These timeless rugs bring history into the contemporary home, each one meticulously hand-knotted by master weavers in Nepal.
The exhibit was beautifully styled by Hannah Bort, whose intuitive eye for texture, proportion, and placementelevated the presentation. From bold artist collaborations to the enduring elegance of our heritage collections, 2017 was the year Knots Rugs truly embodied the idea that the floor can be a canvas — and that art belongs underfoot as much as on the wall.

2018 Innovation, History and Artistry Intertwined
2018 marked the first evolution of Your Floor is the Canvas as Knots Rugs returned to Decorex International with a new wave of artist collaborations and design innovation. This year’s stand at Olympia London showcased the meeting of art, heritage, and modern craftsmanship, continuing our pursuit of transforming contemporary art into luxury hand-knotted rugs.
New partnerships with Blackpop and Roos Soetekouw, alongside a second collaboration with George Morton-Clark, brought fresh energy to the collection — merging digital experimentation, textile artistry, and bold painterly expression. Each collaboration reflected Knots Rugs’ ongoing mission to blur the boundaries between fine art and functional design, turning every floor into a living canvas.
The stand itself expressed the full artistic vision of the studio: from intricate collaborative pieces to new additions to our 17th Century Classic Collection, where traditional motifs met modern colour and proportion. 2018 at Decorex became a celebration of experimentation and evolution — a year where Knots Rugs united innovation, history, and artistry into one cohesive narrative of modern craftsmanship.

2021 A Return to Craft, Calm and Continuity
2021 marked a new chapter for Knots Rugs, as Decorex International found its new home at Olympia London, and the design world cautiously re-emerged after the challenges of the pandemic. For Knots Rugs, it was a moment of reflection and refinement — where the Your Floor is the Canvas concept matured into a more measured, painterly and serene aesthetic.
Our latest artist collaboration with Brian Coleman introduced two extraordinary rugs — Where I Want to Be, Parts 1 & 2 — whose calm, layered compositions embodied quiet strength and timeless artistry. Hand-knotted in wool and silk, these works captured the shift toward natural palettes and textural nuance, making them among our most celebrated designs to date.
Alongside Brian’s work, we debuted two in-house collections, Arc and Hudson — minimalist expressions in monochrome tones that emphasised line, balance, and proportion. Each rug demonstrated Knots Rugs’ ongoing dialogue between contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship.
As a nod to our heritage, we also unveiled Persian Vase, a richly detailed new piece within our 17th Century Collection— a modern recreation of one of the most valuable rugs ever sold, paying homage to the enduring legacy of historic Persian weaving.
The stand, brought together with precision and vision by Managing Director Bonnie Sutton, reflected a renewed sense of calm and sophistication — a space where innovation met history, and craftsmanship once again took centre stage at Decorex 2021.

2022 A Year of Colour, Collaboration and Creative Energy
2022 marked a vibrant return to colour for Knots Rugs, as the studio once again took centre stage at Decorex International, bringing art, energy and optimism back to the floor. At the heart of the stand was a new collaboration with artist Stefan Heyer, whose expressive abstraction redefined the booth’s visual language.
His powerful diptych, Awaken the Spirits, Parts 1 & 2 — inspired by his original painting of the same name — drew visitors in with its vivid brushstrokes, emotional intensity, and painterly depth. Hand-knotted in fine wool and silk, the pieces exemplified the essence of Your Floor is the Canvas: turning art into a tactile experience.
We were also delighted to welcome back Brian Coleman, whose piece The Getting By contrasted Heyer’s expressive style with a more restrained, poetic composition. Blending soft natural tones with blocks of colour, his rug evoked calm movement — a meditation in weave and fibre.
Two new in-house designs, High Rise and Pineapple, expanded the conversation. High Rise explored a modern monochrome geometry, while Pineapple — created from a lino cut by Knots Rugs Managing Director Bonnie Sutton’s son, Max — introduced a playful nod to form and family creativity.
The 2022 collection reaffirmed Knots Rugs’ role as a pioneer in artist collaboration and luxury hand-knotted craftsmanship — a balance of artistry and authenticity that continues to define our work and shape what’s to come.

2023 Recognition, Collaboration, and Creative Milestones
2023 at Decorex International was a truly special year for Knots Rugs — a celebration of collaboration, craftsmanship, and creative recognition. At the heart of the stand, Managing Director Bonnie Sutton stood beside our newest Artist Collaboration with the extraordinary paper marbling artist Nat Maks. The partnership resulted in a collection that brought vibrancy and movement to the booth, each rug echoing the fluid, organic beauty of marbled paper reimagined in hand-knotted wool and silk.
To Bonnie’s right lay the striking King Umberto Skull Rug from our 17th Century Collection — a reminder of Knots Rugs’ respect for history and mastery of traditional weaving techniques. Just beyond view was Raw Earth, a visceral, expressive collaboration with Stefan Heyer, whose brushwork and emotional depth translated seamlessly into textile form.
The year also marked a moment of international recognition for both collaborations: Raw Earth was awarded Best Modern Design at the Carpet Design Awards in Germany, while Dawn, part of the Nat Maks collaboration, received Best Rug of 2024 from Livingetc Magazine.
These accolades represent more than awards — they’re milestones in a journey that began at Decorex 2017, shaped by artists, weavers, designers, and collaborators who have helped bring Knots Rugs’ vision to life. We remain deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this story. For us, it has always been — and will always be — about the people, the process, and the enduring beauty of handmade design.

2024 A Softer Palette and the Poetry of Florals
Decorex 2024 unveiled a new chapter in the Knots Rugs Artist Collaboration Series, introducing two visionary partnerships that explored a more delicate, expressive side of design.
The first was a collaboration with Alicia Gimeno (pictured), whose background in calligraphy and paper-based art brought a sense of fluidity, grace, and meditative beauty to the stand. Her work translated the essence of ink and gesture into hand-knotted texture, resulting in rugs that felt both painterly and poetic — the quiet rhythm of mark-making rendered in wool and silk.
Alongside Alicia’s pieces, Charlotte Krone of Rediscovered By presented a new floral collection inspired by natural forms and soft organic composition. Her work introduced a feminine sensibility to Knots Rugs’ evolving portfolio — exploring colour, light, and texture through a lens of serenity and refinement.
Together, these collaborations revealed a fresh side of Knots Rugs at Decorex — one that celebrated delicacy, craftsmanship, and the timeless art of transformation. The 2024 collection stood as proof that innovation can also whisper, and that quiet beauty is often the most enduring.

But woven even deeper into the fabric of our work is the story of women – visionary, resilient and driven by a desire to create something meaningful. This journal is a celebration of two such women: Bonnie, the founder of Knots Rugs, London and Dolma, one of our most trusted and long-standing production partners based in Nepal. Though worlds apart their lives and work are beautifully linked by a shared passion for rugs, deep respect for craftsmanship, supporting communities and a commitment to empowering women together.

Natural Materials behind every Knots Rug
Each Knots rugs rug weaves a narrative rich not only in color and design but also in materials. The rugs are intricately crafted from materials sourced from the lush silk fields, the majestic Himalayan highlands, and the green hillsides covered with wild nettle. Our rugs are born from nature’s own palette, woven with materials that are as thoughtful as they are beautiful. At Knots Rugs, our work begins long before a single knot is tied. It starts in nature, where the finest, most ethical, and sustainable fibers are found. We work with all the different fibers in the world, from Tibetan wool, Chinese silk, wild silk, nettle, hemp, and cactus.
